20 Apr A More Beautiful Barn – Glenn

A More Beautiful Barn – Glenn was filmed in Loose Creek, MO. HDaerial, in conjunction with Matthew and Company were asked to film over a three week period three separate paintings of murals on barns throughout the US for Cargill. HDaerial employed their UAV octocopter with the MōVI M10 gyro stabilized gimbal to capture the beautiful images for A More Beautiful Barn – Glenn. The UAV / Drone carried the RED Dragon camera, capturing at 6K with various Ziess CP2 prime lens. They also were able to provide the MōVI M10 stabilized system for ground coverage. “We could change out the system from our aerial rig to a handheld rig in about forty five minutes and reverse that configuration in about one hour. This way the client had the versatility to fly aerials in the morning and use the MōVI during the day for ground shots then re-rig for aerials in the afternoon”, Richard Trub said. “Our custom built UAV octocopter / Drone had no problems with carrying the Dragon and the CP2’s what so ever, the motors never over heated and the MōVI was rock solid”. Richard said.

30 Apr Aerial filming of Sperm Whales in Dominica Commonwealth

There is nothing more beautiful and awe inspiring than seeing Sperm whales in their natural habitat. In the Spring of 2014, HDaerial.Com was contracted by Justin Akiyama, Producer for Chiyoda Raft Production of Tokyo, Japan to do aerial filming of Sperm Whales in Dominica Commonwealth. Chiyoda Raft Production faced the task of shooting a documentary to air on NHK Japan of these beautiful creatures interacting with humans swimming alongside them. The production team consisted of a camera crew, an underwater camera operator and our Unmanned Aerial Vehicle UAV crew. All of the aerial footage was captured from HDaerial’s UAV Heavy Lift Octocopter with a MōVI M10 gimbal. The UAV takeoffs and landings were from the deck of a sixty foot catamaran with swells between one and three feet. Over a 3 day period of time, we did approximately 30 lifts. Here is just some of the great footage we acquired with the UAV. While shooting from the deck of a boat made takeoffs and landings a little more interesting, the location allowed us to capture some really spectacular moments of the whales leisurely swimming with their human counterpart. The UAV allowed us capture aerials of this event in a way that a large manned helicopter would not have allowed. A manned helicopter operation would not have allowed the flexibility to wait and find the whales as they surfaced for air. Coordinating with our swimmer and the whales would have also added another element of difficulty. HDaerial’s UAV Heavy Lift Octocopter with a MōVI M10 gimbal was able to provide the necessary flexibility and ease of timing to capture precious moments of beautiful Sperm whales swimming with humans. 04 Aug Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engine

When you think of Rolls Royce, you typically think of a really nice car. Well, this job took us out to Tucson, AZ and it wasn’t a car we were shooting. We were hired by Rolls Royce to film the new Trent 1000 engine going through some of its testing paces. This engine is now considered the most reliable engine on the new 787 airplanes.

This was a 4 camera video shoot; 2 cameras on the ground covering take-offs and landings, 1 camera in a fixed wing jet flying along the side of the Trent 1000 engine and 1 camera mounted in a Cineflex V-14 on the nose of a Eurocopter AStar 350 B2. We were there for 3 days capturing all the footage we could of this incredible new engine technology.

This one took some coordination so we took Matt as Director of all Photography and aerial cinematograper, Richard Trub as Camera Operator on camera 1, we hired Holly Romero, a local Camera Operator to run ground camera 2, Mark McKenna as Camera Operator 3 in the Citation Jet, Steven Meckler as Still Photograper and Kay Trub as Producer on the project.

We have many years experience with aerial photography and aerial cinematography and use the best gyro-stabilized solutions for aerial filming. Contact us today toll free at 1-800-897-7637 for a free consult on your next project.

29 Jul De Lage Landen in New York

De Lage Landen Sails Into New York

2011-2012 ‘De Lage Landen’ is one of ten identical yachts that spent nearly a year sailing around the world during Clipper 11-12. In total, these ships traveled forty thousand nautical miles over 74 thousand kilometers, visiting fourteen ports on six continents. HDaerial was asked to shoot aerial cinematography of the De Lage Landen arriving in New York. The aerial footage was shot by Matt Trub, with HDaerial using the Cineflex V14. The Cineflex V14 was mounted on an Astar 355 Twin Star with expert film pilot, Al Cerullo as pilot. Aerial images of this beautiful clipper gliding by Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty with its spinnaker unfurled created lasting memories for the crew of the De Lage Landen.
While aerial filming was taking place, a ground crew was on the decks of the De Lage Landen shooting interviews and footage of the crew at work. To successfully capture the beautiful aerial images the client wanted, pre-production planning and logistics needed to be coordinated.
HDaerial excels at aerial coordination. Solid aerial coordination will make the difference between a really successful aerial project and a mediocre aerial project. HDaerial has identified qualified aerial film pilots and helicopters that can handle the proper gyro stabilized camera system for the job at hand regardless of where in the world the aerial job takes place. We coordinate with the production team all, ground crews to be featured in the shot and those that are not such as refueling crews and staging crews. HDaerial also makes sure all permits and certificates of insurance are properly in place before take off.
The De Lage Landen corporate video is a great example of how powerful and important aerial images can be to your corporate message. It takes team work to capture those aerial images. HDaerial brings a strong team to the table when hired to shoot aerial cinematography for your corporate video. HDaerial is a team you can count on to deliver the images you need to communicate your message.
