Ball Mounts
Ball mounts are mounts with the camera block or entire camera enclosed within a wind shroud. Most gyro stabilized mounts are extremely steady and allow the camera operator full control of the camera system from zoom control, focus and iris. Larger systems are designed for film production and can accommodate film cameras with 1000’ magazines. Other systems are designed for ENG work.
HDaerial coordinates the brackets for these mounts as well as locating the closest, appropriate, and most cost effective helicopter in your region. Most video mounts come with the camera block permanently installed and cannot be switched out with another camera, so you must choose the type of ball mount that accommodates your production. For example we have ball mounts with SD (standard definition) cameras that record to Betacam SP or DVCAM at 4:3 or 16:9. Other mounts, like Gyron contain the SONY HD F950 or the T950 camera block and can record to various HD or SD decks.
Consideration should also be taken when determining the altitude over a particular target. If you must remain 2,000’ or higher, such as over a stadium or golf course, gyro stabilized systems with magnetic floating heads should be considered. These systems can be mounted on the nose or side of the helicopter. Gyro stabilized systems are excellent for following gas pipelines and electrical lines.
